Toby in Win-Win Situation at Nunney International Horse Trials
June 17, 2018
Today Toby competed in both Intermediate Sections at Nunney International Horse Trials. It was an early start for the team to prepare the two greys ROYAL DIAMOND II and FREESTYLE R both owned by Toby Pigott Eventing.
First up was ROYAL DIAMOND who was having his first run of the season. The 10 year old Irish Sports Horse by MANOR DIAMOND was early to go with a Dressage Score of 31.4 and a double clear with just 3.2 time penalties to add from the XC. This result gave him an early lead but with 15 combinations that could have placed ahead of him.
Toby’s second ride of the day was FREESTYLE R having only his second run at Intermediate. The combination was straight into the top 5 with an impressive Dressage score of 25.5. Only 8 years old, he is finding new strength and his show jumping technique has really improved leading to a second clear round for Toby. The Dutch Warmblood by CORLAND went into the XC phase in 5th position and he jumped a brilliant clear just tiring up the final hill to home and picking up 4.4 time penalties.
As the horses were washed off and their legs cooled, the XC was creating plenty of issues and the hard ground affecting the pace for Toby’s fellow competitors which saw both horses climbed the rankings. The leaders after the Dressage were all late to go in the section but the long wait was well worth it as Toby was confirmed the WINNER of BOTH sections. FREESTYLE R was also awarded the Trophy prize for the best Local Horse; this is the second time that Toby has won the Trophy winning with ROYAL DIAMOND II on his last appearance here in 2015.
These events are always a Team effort with Toby’s groom Tabitha Williamson ensuring the horses were prepared for each phase and free of stable stains whilst his supportive parents, Di and Steve, ensured that the horses were warmed up and cooled down. A huge thanks must also go to Toby’s sponsors Jackson Rose Recruitment Solutions, HAYGAIN and SPILLERS. Toby is a new addition to #TeamSPILLERS and is looking forward to a visit from their Competition Nutritionist, Yvonne Judith, to weigh the horses and analyse their diets for maximum performance later this week.
