Freestyle R and Royal Diamond II complete their 2018 season at the NAF Hartpury International Horse Trials in the CCI2*.
Both horses were making their debut at CCI2* and Toby and his team were hoping to gain their MER by the end of the season.
FREESTYLE R (picture left) had a strong start to the competition with 31.7 dressage with just a little tension in his walk work. He went on to jump double clear with 6.8 time penalties across country. At 17hh Freebie is a big horse and he was late to go when the ground was at his wettest however, he jumped so well and straight through the tricky combinations that Toby could not have been more pleased. His result was good enough for 10th position.
ROYAL DIAMOND II (pictured right) came closest to the leaders with a 32.2 Dressage, clear Cross Country and just 1.6 time penalties. After lying 4th overnight a single pole saw him slide to 8th position in a very tight final phase.
This was an important event for Toby's sponsors NAF and Flare who were both represented at the event. NAF are the main sponsor of the events and so it was a great photo opportunity for us! We were so pleased for our new sponsors of 2018 to see Toby make the line up with both of his rides!
Having achieved their season aim at the first attempt, both horses have earned themselves an early finish to the season and have seen out August in the field! Of note, FREESTYLE R finishes the season never out of the top 10 places and with a win at Nunney!
After the long, hot summer, the change in weather continued into the next event at Wellington Horse Trials. This was a preparatory run for GOLDEN FOREVER and LANCE A LITTLE for their September runs. The photo opportunities were sadly limited by the torrential rain and a very wet ground team! However, neither horse disappointed with LANCE A LITTLE placing 9th in his second Intermediate Event. He had an impressive dressage of 29.1, he dropped 2 poles in the showjumping as the wet and blustery weather affected his concentration but went on to deliver a brilliant clear round cross country. GOLDEN FOREVER, having not run since his ERM debut at Barbury, had a spin around the Open Intermediate. Not famous for his dressage ability, Toby was pleased with his 38.0 dressage and he stormed around for a double clear to Finish of his Dressage in 6th place!
The yard also welcomed a new arrival in 4 year old CLADDAGH DOUGIE who is an Irish Sports Horse Gelding by ARD VDL DOUGLAS out of a CAVALIER ROYALE mare. This lovely young horse was purchased from Stronge Equestrian (FB: Poppy Stronge) and so far has done everything asked of him at the first time of asking in the school or over small cross country fences!
