CIC2* success at Whatley Manor Horse Trials, Gatcombe

September 10, 2018

LANCE A LITTLE made his CIC2* debut with the Dressage phase at Gatcombe Horse Trials this weekend.

At the end of the first day of Dressage, their score of 34.4 put Toby and LANCE A LITTLE in the Top 10 at this early stage of the competition and 22nd after the second day with very few faults between the top 20.  Having only moved up to BE Intermediate in July, which requires more technical lateral work such as shoulder-in and travers and medium and extended movements, this is his first attempt at CIC2*. The dressage is similar to BE Intermediate but also requires walk pirouettes, a movement that was only introduced to Stuart’s, as he is known on the Yard, training a few weeks ago.

On Sunday, they went clear and inside the time XC which gave nothing to add whilst the course created plenty of problems for his fellow competitors. He flew through the trot up and the horses all went through to the SJ in reverse order of merit.  He jumped a fantastic clear round in the final phase meaning that he finished on his Dressage score of 34.4 in 6th place.  It's always a highlight at Gatcombe to be presented with your rosette by HRH Princess Anne, even Stuart was impressed!!

This young horse by LANCELOT is owned by Mrs Emily Couldwell and has really grown up this season. He doesn’t seem to have a weak phase which really makes him one to watch for the future.  The aim at Gatcombe was achieving his MER, Toby was elated with this top ten finish. His next event will be Osberton Hose Trials for the CICYH1* at the end of the month.
